In the shadowy corners of deceit and betrayal, The Scheming Pharmacist and The Deceitful Wife weave a tale of treachery and unfaithfulness. The pharmacist, harbouring a vengeful heart, contemplates a nefarious plan to poison his adulterous spouse. Cleverly concealed beneath the plume of his hat, a sinister poison bottle waits to execute his malevolent intentions. Meanwhile, The Deceitful Wife, adorned with a headdress indicating a scarlet letter A, wears her shame like a crown. The scarlet letter not only marks her as an adulteress, but her extended little finger hints at a deeper story. Historical records suggest a dual narrative—either a flirtatious gesture indicating interest in another man or, more ominously, a consequence of syphilis, with joint damage rendering her finger immobile. As this clandestine drama unfolds, the toxic threads of their relationship threaten to unravel, leaving a trail of deception and despair in their wake.
