This painting is inspired by the wild and powerful waves crashing on to the rocks at the edge of Northam Burrows. In order to demonstrate the juxtaposition of both the beauty and the danger of the surging waves, I have used a sombre palette of greys and cool blues, with white highlights and varied brush strokes, to mimic the motion of the water. The racing clouds on the horizon reflect the constant changes in coastal weather, whilst the rocks remain stalwart in their defence.
