This painting was inspired by a distant view of the North Devon fishing village of Appledore. Seen from a afar, it appears to wait for the incoming tide as the ocean enters the estuary. I aimed to capture the gentle movement of the water as it curls and twists and fills the bay, until it laps below the cottages on the hill, which are almost lost between the sea and sky. The Appledore lifeboat is just visible.
